If It’s Summer, It Must Be Time for Resurfacing

Laser ResurfacingSummertime in California it seems is the only time to resurface every single road in the state. But it’s also a good time to consider some other resurfacing, that of your facial skin. Dr. Malamet uses laser resurfacing to improve fine lines, wrinkles, and skin tone.

Prior to the procedure

Our laser resurfacing treatments usually begin six weeks prior to the actual procedure. That’s why as the summer progresses, you can consider this for when the beach weather has passed. Our preparations are based on the individual’s needs and are always specifically customized. These preparations increase the efficiency of the actual resurfacing.

How does laser resurfacing work?

Our laser resurfacing creates a controlled dermal wound beneath the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin), while also removing a certain depth of the epidermis layer. When the laser energy is delivered into the dermis (the second layer of the skin) it converts to heat. This heat energy, while not painful at all, gives the body the impression there has been a wound in the area. It responds by creating new collagen, the skin’s basic support structure protein, and elastin, which is responsible for the skin’s suppleness, to heal the wound. This creates new, younger skin cells to rebuild areas with wrinkles, lines, and dull tone.

Treatments vary, depending on what we are addressing, lasting from 30 minutes to two hours. We apply a topical numbing agent at the start of your session to keep you comfortable.

What does laser resurfacing address?

Dr. Malamet uses laser resurfacing to improve:

  • Skin tone and complexion
  • Liver spots
  • Aged or sun-damaged skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Small scars
  • Non-responsive skin
  • Warts
  • Birthmarks
  • Enlarged oil glands on the nose

Recovery

The treated skin will be sensitive after your procedure, but this can be mitigated by keeping your head elevated and using ice to minimize swelling. Your skin will likely be extra sensitive for one to two weeks and you must be diligent about applying 30 spf sunscreen. Even after the surface has healed, revealing younger skin beneath, your results will continue to improve due to the collagen that is rebuilding in the dermis.

So, don’t leave all the resurfacing to the streets, let’s resurface that dull facial skin. Call us at 818-380-3130 and ask about laser skin resurfacing.
