Bariatric surgery is a difficult process, but its results can be amazing. However, in many cases, the patient is left with a much smaller body covered in skin that looks about 10 sizes too big. Body contouring surgery with Dr. Malamet can match your skin to your new slimmer self.
Why does my skin look like it’s someone else’s?
Human skin has a good deal of elasticity, but it has limits. When a person has been heavily overweight for a long period, the skin stretches to a point where it cannot return to its former degree of tautness. A good analogy is a rubber band that has been stretched around a big object for a length of time, and when it is removed, it is permanently stretched out.
That’s what can be so frustrating. You’ve done the hard part and lost the weight. But now your skin won’t cooperate and finish the job off.
What is body contouring?
Body contouring is a term that denotes a variety of surgical procedures that target different areas of the body where the skin is overly loose and saggy. Muscles in the areas such as the abdomen may also be stretched or even separated. It’s important to note that body contouring with Dr. Malamet is not a weight loss procedure. Dr. Malamet requires his body contouring patients to be within 10% of their ideal body weight and to have maintained that weight for a period.
Why is this important? If the patient is still losing weight at the time of his or her surgery, they will create additional loose skin after their contouring is complete. On the flip side, if you gain a good deal of weight back after your contouring procedures, you will develop large scars and stretch marks on the sensitive skin that is still recovering from surgery. Dr. Malamet wants his body contouring patients to be committed to keeping their weight stable and following a healthy lifestyle and good diet.
What is involved in body contouring?
Body contouring with Dr. Malamet involves a series of lifts and rejuvenation procedures to make the skin firm and contoured to the smaller size of the patient after bariatric surgery. The procedures included can vary by the patient, but they may include:
- Tummy tuck
- Arm lift
- Breast lift
- Thigh lift
- Belt lift
The procedures will be grouped as possible to minimize recovery time, but Dr. Malamet may decide to spread some of them out to allow the body to heal between procedures. You’ll discuss your options during your consultation.
If you have had bariatric surgery, but are unhappy with the loose skin that still plagues you, call Dr. Malamet and let’s talk about body contouring, 818-380-3130.Previous Post Next Post
