Ever hear someone say a person has a “weak face?” That’s not a reference to its ability to take a punch, but more likely to its lack of definition in the cheeks. Some people always have had cheeks without much definition. Others have lost volume and definition as skin and muscle have drooped with age. But Dr. Malamet can give you the cheekbones you want with cheek implants.
What are cheek implants?
You may know them as your cheekbones, but the medical world knows them as your malar bones. Cheek implants are designed to augment those malar bones. They are named depending on their intended placement and are available in different shapes and sizes to fit your goals and expectations. The implants are generally categorized in three general shapes: malar, submalar, or combined. Malar implants are the most common and are placed directly on the cheekbones. They provide more projection to the cheekbones, giving a higher contour to the side of the face. Submalar implants are not placed on the cheekbones, but instead in the mid-face area where the patient has lost volume. Combined implants augment both the cheekbones and the mid-face. Overall, cheek implants provide very predictable results for our patients.
How are cheek implants positioned?
Dr. Malamet usually inserts cheek implants through small incisions in the mouth. When cheek augmentation is a stand-alone procedure, he usually opts for the incisions in the mouth. He then forms small pockets in the eventual final location and the implants are placed there. The incisions are then closed and the stitches removed in about 10 days, or they will dissolve in around the same timeframe if placed in the mouth.
Cheek augmentation with fillers
Dr. Malamet also uses dermal fillers for cheek enhancement, usually Restylane and Perlane. These provide volume replacement, not the more pronounced cheekbones achieved with implants. Unfortunately, fillers are not permanent improvements. They have to be injected again once the body absorbs the filler, which occurs with all fillers over different lengths of time.
Whether you’ve lost volume or want to get the high cheekbones you’ve never had, cheek implants with Dr. Malamet are the way to achieve it. Call us at 818-380-3130 to schedule a consultation.Previous Post Next Post
